Description
Property
Oostenburg forms part of the Eastern Islands (Oostelijke Eilanden), which were partly created in the IJ around 1650 and partly dug out of what were then meadows to the east of the city. Over the coming years, Oostenburg will be developed into a bold new city district with around 1,800 homes.
There will be an attractive mix of social, mid-market and private-sector rental housing, owner-occupied apartments, self-build homes, leisure spaces, and hospitality and business premises. The historic heart of Oostenburg will be preserved in the form of the 19th-century Van Gendthallen, the monumental Werkspoorhal and the old quay walls. It will become a district with green roofs and reuse of materials from its industrial past. Solar panels and geothermal heat supply will help make Oostenburg a sustainable neighbourhood. It is already very popular thanks to café-restaurants Roest and Rosa & Rita, as well as the Inntel hotel & restaurant with its terrace on the quay.
